Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance is a Japanese animation directed by Hideako Anno with Masayuki and Kazuya Tsurumaki. The screenplay was written by Hideako Anno. It is the second film of four in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy. It is based on the original series of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The first part of the film is adapted from episodes 8-12, whilst the second part of the film adapts the main conflicts from episodes 18 and 19, whilst incorperating material up to episode 23. At the start of the film the remains of the Third Angel escapes from its confinement and tries to escape from Nerv’s Bethany base. A new pilot, Mari, launches Eva Provisional Unit-05 and destroys the Angel by self destructing the angel and ejecting just before it blows.
Following on from the previousfilm, there are intriguing allusions to Judeao-Christion imagery. Here we have suitcase delivered to Gendo containing the “Key of Nebuchadnezzar”. As in the last film, there is plenty to think about.
